Within the Cairngorm National park and Inverness-shire which takes its name from Loch Ness we are near to the centre of the Scottish Highlands.

The Park

The Cairngorms National Park is Britain's largest National Park at 3800 sq kilometres (1,467 sq miles). The boundries of the Park stretch from Grantown-on-Spey to the heads of the Angus Glens; from Ballater to Dalwhinnie and Drumochter and includes much of the Laggan area in the south west and a large area of Glen Livet estate and the Strathdon/Glen Buchat area. The Cairngorms rich cultural heritage is also part of what makes it exceptional.

Scottish National Parks differ from many other national parks around the world in that they have a social and economic development aim alongside the aims of conservation, understanding and enjoyment of the countryside.

Birchfield Cottages are five minutes walk from the Nethybridge village shop/post office and butcher (both will take orders to deliver for your arrival), tennis courts and bowling green. Within one mile there are three hotels serving meals to visitors and the Strathspey steam railway.

We are usually on hand to offer information beyond the brochures contained in each cottage – particularly for special interests and weather conditions.

Transport

By Car: Coming from the South turn off the A9 just north of Aviemore. Follow the A95 towards Grantown On Spey turning off to Boat of Garten where sign posted, cross the river Spey and join the B970 to Nethybridge. After the village sign for Nethbridge, follow the road to the left and take the first turning to the left.
